Island Health Hip and Knee Replacement Physiotherapy Voucher
We are pleased to offer Physiotherapy services as part of the Island Health voucher program.
After your surgery, you will begin going for physiotherapy. Physiotherapy will help build strength in the muscles around your new joint.
Your first physiotherapy appointment will be 1-2 weeks after your surgery date. Someone from Rehabilitation Services will tell you where your physiotherapy appointment will be. Your physiotherapist will give you exercises to do at home; this is the most important part of your rehabilitation. Your physiotherapist will review your home exercise program at your physiotherapy visits. As you recover, your exercises will be made more challenging.
The Physiotherapy Voucher Program allows people who have had non-complex hip or knee replacement surgery to attend a private practice physiotherapy clinic to help with recovery.
If eligible, you will receive a Physiotherapy Voucher from a physiotherapist at the hospital where you had your surgery before you are discharged. If you are not eligible, the physiotherapist at the hospital will send a referral to the closest Island Health Outpatient Physiotherapy Department.
